QR connection risks

Version 2026-10-25-draft

Linking your WhatsApp number with a QR code is fast, but it is not an official integration. Read this before you connect.

1. What a QR connection is

When you scan the QR code, ISSA acts like an extra linked device on your WhatsApp account, similar to WhatsApp Web. It is not the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API).

2. The risks

  • WhatsApp can restrict or permanently ban a number that automates conversations or sends unsolicited messages. A ban can cost you the number and its chat history.
  • The connection can drop at any time, for example when WhatsApp changes its systems or the phone is offline for long.
  • Features of the official API, such as templates and verified business profile, are not available.
  • Messages may be delayed or lost during outages we cannot control.

3. How to lower the risk

  • Do not use a number that is critical to your business and cannot be replaced.
  • Only contact people who wrote to you first or agreed to be contacted.
  • Do not send bulk or repetitive messages; keep follow-ups moderate.
  • Keep the phone charged and online, and keep WhatsApp updated.

4. Your acceptance

By connecting a number with a QR code you accept these risks and that ISSA is not liable for restrictions imposed by WhatsApp. Official channels may be offered in the future.
